The European hare, also called the brown hare, is a species of hare native to Europe and parts of Asia and is among the largest hare species, adapted to temperate open country. It is herbivorous, feeding mainly on grasses and herbs and supplementing its diet with twigs, buds, bark and field crops in winter, and it relies on long powerful limbs and high-speed endurance running to escape predators such as red foxes and large birds of prey.
