Giant Otter, or giant river otter, is a South American carnivorous mammal and the longest member of the weasel family Mustelidae, reaching up to 1.8 meters. Atypical of mustelids it is a social species, living in family groups of three to eight members centered on a dominant breeding pair, and is the noisiest otter species, with distinct vocalizations documented that indicate alarm, aggression and reassurance; it is diurnal, active exclusively during daylight hours, and generally peaceful though territorial, with aggression observed between groups.
