Greater Horseshoe Bat

The greater horseshoe bat is an insectivorous bat of the genus Rhinolophus, found across Europe, Northern Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Asia. It is the largest of the horseshoe bats in Europe, which makes it easy to distinguish from other species, and it is sedentary, typically travelling up to 30 kilometres between its winter and summer roosts, with the longest recorded movement measuring 180 kilometres. It echolocates using frequencies between 69 and 83 kilohertz, with most energy concentrated at 81 kilohertz and an average call duration of 37.4 milliseconds.
