The kinkajou is a golden-furred, tree-dwelling mammal of Central and South American rainforests, related to raccoons despite its monkey-like appearance and behavior. It has a fully prehensile tail, large eyes suited to its nocturnal habits, and a long tongue used to feed on fruit and nectar, making it an important pollinator and seed disperser for many rainforest trees. It is occasionally kept as an exotic pet, though its wild populations remain broadly stable across its large range.
