Lionfish

Lionfish are venomous marine ray-finned fish of the genus Pterois, native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific. They are prolific coral fish known for conspicuous warning coloration of red or black bands and ostentatious dorsal fins tipped with venomous spines, their primary defense against predators, and the most commonly studied species in the genus are Pterois radiata, Pterois volitans and Pterois miles. Pterois volitans and Pterois miles are popular aquarium fish that have also become recent and significant invasive species in the western Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
