Pacific Anemonefish

The Pacific anemonefish (Amphiprion pacificus) is known only from a small area of the western Pacific around Wallis Island, Tonga, Fiji, and the Samoan Islands, a region of unusually high anemonefish endemism. It is small, reaching only about 3 to 5 centimeters, with a pinkish brown body that pales to yellow or orange on the lower sides and a white stripe along the dorsal ridge. It is uncommon within its range and associates with only one of the region's six host anemone species, the magnificent sea anemone, at depths of about 4 to 10 meters, a specialization that leaves it especially vulnerable to threats affecting coral reefs.
