Smooth Horsetail (Equisetum laevigatum), also called smooth scouring rush, is a horsetail native to most of North America except northern Canada and southern Mexico, usually found in moist sandy or gravelly areas. It grows narrow green stems that can exceed 1.5 meters tall, with small brownish sheath-like leaves at the nodes and occasional slender branches, topped by rounded cone-shaped sporangia.
