Wide-band Anemonefish

The wide-band anemonefish (Amphiprion latezonatus) is a clownfish restricted to subtropical Australian waters, occurring from southern Queensland through northern New South Wales to Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island. It reaches about 14 centimeters and is dark brown with three white bands, the middle one roughly twice the width of the equivalent band on similar species and pyramid shaped, with some individuals showing bright blue markings on the upper lip and bar edges. The species is unusually specialized, associating almost exclusively with the sebae sea anemone though it has occasionally been recorded using two other host species. It is listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN, facing the same reef threats of ocean acidification and bleaching that affect its anemone hosts.
