Amaranthaceae, commonly known as the amaranth family, is a family of flowering plants in the order Caryophyllales comprising about 165 genera and 2,040 species, the most species rich family in its order, and now includes the former goosefoot family Chenopodiaceae. Its members are predominantly herbaceous plants, though some are shrubs or subshrubs. The family includes spinach, beetroot and chard, quinoa, and the weedy redroot pigweed.
