Fagaceae

Fagaceae, commonly known as the beech family, is a family of flowering plants in the order Fagales comprising eight genera and around 1,000 or more species. Its members have alternate simple leaves with pinnate venation, unisexual flowers borne in catkins, and fruit in the form of a cup enclosed nut, an acorn in the case of oaks. One of the most ecologically important woody plant families of the Northern Hemisphere, its three main groups are the beeches, chestnuts, and oaks, which form the backbone of temperate forests across North America, Europe, and Asia.
