Leiothrichidae

Leiothrichidae, the laughingthrushes, is a family of Old World songbirds comprising 143 species in 17 genera, found mainly across the subtropical and tropical regions of Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. They are small to medium-sized birds with robust legs and generalized, thrush-like bills, mostly brown in color with little difference between the sexes, though some species in the family are brightly colored. Laughingthrushes favor lightly wooded or scrubland habitats from swamps to deserts, are mainly insectivorous but often supplement their diet with berries, with the larger species also taking small vertebrates, and are largely non-migratory, having short rounded wings and comparatively weak flight.
