Psittacidae

Psittacidae is a family of true parrots placed in the order Psittaciformes, divided into the subfamily Psittacinae of twelve Afrotropical parrot species and the subfamily Arinae of roughly one hundred sixty seven Neotropical parrot species, for a total of about 179 species across 37 genera. Its members live in tropical and subtropical Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean islands, and sub-Saharan Africa, with three species once native to the United States before one went extinct and another was extirpated. Well known members include the blue-and-yellow macaw among the New World parrots and the grey parrot among the Afrotropical parrots.
