Pteropodidae

Pteropodidae is a family of bats in the order Chiroptera, commonly called Old World fruit bats or flying foxes, native to the tropics and subtropics of Africa, Asia, Australia and Pacific island groups. Its members are generally larger than other bats, with well developed eyes suited to a visual style of navigation, and most species lack the laryngeal echolocation used by other bat families, instead relying on sight and smell to find fruit, nectar and pollen. The family includes the genus Pteropus, the flying foxes, among the largest bats in the world with wingspans that can exceed a meter.
