Catopuma

Catopuma is a genus of the cat family Felidae, comprising two small cat species native to Southeast Asia, the Asian golden cat, Catopuma temminckii, and the bay cat, Catopuma badia. Both species share solid reddish-brown coloration on their backs with darker markings on the head, and exhibit color variations ranging from browns to grays to black; the Asian golden cat ranges from northeast India to Sumatra, while the bay cat is endemic to Borneo. The genus closest living relative is the marbled cat, genus Pardofelis, with which it shared a common ancestor approximately 9.4 million years ago, and the two Catopuma species themselves diverged from each other roughly 3.16 million years ago, before Borneo separation from neighboring islands.
