Chelonia

Chelonia is a genus of sea turtles in the family Cheloniidae containing a single living species, the green sea turtle, whose range extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas worldwide, with distinct Atlantic and Pacific populations and a presence in the Indian Ocean as well. Unlike other members of its family, such as the hawksbill sea turtle, the green sea turtle is mostly herbivorous as an adult, feeding strictly on seagrass; its common name refers to the greenish fat found beneath its carapace from this diet rather than to the color of the shell itself, which ranges from olive to black.
