Salticidae

Other Invertebrate Families

Salticidae is the family of jumping spiders, with almost 700 genera and around 7,000 described species, which makes it the largest family of spiders at about 13 percent of all spider species. Jumping spiders have some of the best vision among arthropods, including stereoscopic color vision, and they use sight in courtship, hunting and navigation. Most species are capable of agile jumps, notably when hunting, and all have four pairs of eyes with the front middle pair particularly large. Tropical forests hold the most species, but jumping spiders also live in temperate forests, scrubland, deserts, intertidal zones and mountainous regions.
