American Hog-nosed Skunk

The American hog-nosed skunk lives from the southwestern United States through Mexico into Central America, favoring rocky and brushy terrain near water. It has a distinctive long, bare, pig-like snout used to root through soil and leaf litter for insects, grubs, and small invertebrates, and its coat is mostly white above with black underparts and legs, the reverse pattern of many other skunks. It relies more on its rooting snout for foraging than on chemical defense and remains widespread within its range.
