Taxa

Named taxonomic groups in the classification of living things, at any rank above the individual species entry: genera, families, orders, classes, phyla, kingdoms and domains, and formally recognized clades such as Felidae, Primates, Coleoptera and Chordata, each entry covering the group's defining characteristics, its member diversity and its position in the tree of life. Distinct from Species, which holds one individual named organism per entry (African Elephant, Blue Whale); a taxon entry describes the group as a whole, not any single member species within it. Belongs here: a named taxonomic rank or clade grouping two or more species, whatever the rank. Does not belong here: an individual species, filed under Species; a biome or ecosystem, filed under Biomes or Ecosystems; and a natural process such as migration or extinction, filed under Natural Phenomena.
