Eudyptes

Eudyptes is a genus of penguins known as the crested penguins, all black and white with yellow crests and red bills and eyes; each female typically lays two eggs but raises only one chick, since the first egg laid is substantially smaller than the second. The number of recognized living species ranges from four to eight depending on the taxonomic authority, with one additional species from the Chatham Islands extinct in recent centuries; the greatest diversity occurs around New Zealand and its surrounding islands, and the genus otherwise inhabits subantarctic islands across the southern oceans.
