Bacteria

One of the three domains of life: single-celled prokaryotic organisms lacking a membrane-bound nucleus, found in essentially every habitat on Earth, from soil and water to the human gut. Bacteria are metabolically the most diverse domain, including photosynthesizers, decomposers, nitrogen fixers and pathogens, and their phyla are classified largely by cell-wall structure and rRNA sequence rather than visible anatomy.
