Although once thought to contain only gilled mushrooms, the order is now known to include non-gilled, coral-like and bracket forms as well, spanning more than 25,000 described species across 46 families that range from edible cultivated mushrooms to deadly poisonous ones. The oldest known fossil attributed to the order is the late Aptian species Gondwanagaricites magnificus, dating to the Cretaceous period.FactsAgaricalesConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsClassificationLiving or ExtinctWell-attestedYes 1Taxonomic RankWell-attestedOrder 2AgaricalesFilter Results31 entriesCommon GroupAllGilled Mushrooms (Agarics) (25)Polypores And Bracket Fungi (1)Puffballs And Earthstars (2)Rusts, Smuts And Plant Pathogens (3)HabitatAllBoreal Forest (1)Grassland (6)Temperate Coniferous Forest (2)Temperate Forest (8)Tropical Rainforest (1)Conservation StatusAllLeast Concern (4)Not Evaluated (21)Vulnerable (1)EcosystemAllMediterranean Basin (1)Everyday GroupAllGilled Mushrooms (Agarics) (25)Polypores And Bracket Fungi (1)Puffballs And Earthstars (2)Rusts, Smuts And Plant Pathogens (3)DietAllCarnivore (1)Detritivore or Scavenger (20)Parasitic (5)System (Realm)AllTerrestrial (31)Relationship to PeopleAllEaten or Drunk by People (15)Farmed or Commercially Raised (7)Invasive or Introduced Species (2)Used in Traditional Medicine (1)Venomous or Dangerous to Humans (6)Living or ExtinctAllYes (9)Where It LivesAllAfrica (1)Austria (2)Belgium (20)Benin (1)Brazil (8)Chile (2)Denmark (17)Europe (1)France (1)Germany (1)Hainan (2)Netherlands (1)North America (1)Norway (23)Portugal (11)Slovenia (2)South America (1)Sweden (20)Taiwan (1)Togo (1)United Kingdom (2)United States (19)Zambia (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 31Amethyst DeceiverAgaricalesArmillaria ostoyaeAgaricalesBeefsteak FungusAgaricalesBicolored Deceiver (Laccaria bicolor)AgaricalesCommon Ink CapAgaricalesCommon PuffballAgaricalesDeadly DapperlingAgaricalesDeadly GalerinaAgaricalesDeadly WebcapAgaricalesEnokitakeAgaricalesFairy Ring MushroomAgaricalesGiant PuffballAgaricalesGiant Termite MushroomAgaricalesHoney FungusAgaricalesHorse MushroomAgaricalesHypsizygus ulmariusAgaricalesJack-o'-lantern MushroomAgaricalesKing Trumpet MushroomAgaricalesLyophyllum decastesAgaricalesMatsutakeAgaricalesOyster MushroomAgaricalesParasol MushroomAgaricalesShaggy ManeAgaricalesShiitakeAgaricalesSplit GillAgaricalesSulphur TuftAgaricalesTricholoma terreumAgaricalesVerdigris AgaricAgaricalesWhite Button MushroomAgaricalesWitches' Broom Fungus (Moniliophthora perniciosa)AgaricalesWood BlewitAgaricalesConnectionsParent Taxon OfAmethyst Deceiver, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Amethyst DeceiverArmillaria ostoyae, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Armillaria ostoyaeBeefsteak Fungus, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Beefsteak FungusBicolored Deceiver (Laccaria bicolor), Species Well-attested Source GBIF Backbone Taxonomy: Laccaria bicolorCommon Ink Cap, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Common Ink CapCommon Puffball, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Common Puffballtier 2Deadly Dapperling, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Deadly DapperlingDeadly Galerina, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Deadly GalerinaDeadly Webcap, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Deadly WebcapEnokitake, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: EnokitakeFairy Ring Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Fairy Ring MushroomGiant Puffball, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Giant PuffballGiant Termite Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source GBIF Backbone Taxonomy: Termitomyces titanicusHoney Fungus, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Honey FungusHorse Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Agaricus arvensis (Wikidata)tier 2Hypsizygus ulmarius, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Hypsizygus ulmariusJack-o'-lantern Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Jack-o'-lantern MushroomKing Trumpet Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: King Trumpet MushroomLyophyllum decastes, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Lyophyllum decastesMatsutake, Species Well-attested Source Matsutake (Wikidata)tier 2Oyster Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Oyster MushroomParasol Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Parasol MushroomShaggy Mane, Species Well-attested Source Shaggy Mane (Wikidata)tier 2Shiitake, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: ShiitakeSplit Gill, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Split GillSulphur Tuft, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Sulphur TuftTricholoma terreum, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Tricholoma terreumVerdigris Agaric, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Verdigris AgaricWhite Button Mushroom, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: White Button MushroomWitches' Broom Fungus (Moniliophthora perniciosa), Species Well-attested Source GBIF Backbone Taxonomy: Moniliophthora perniciosaWood Blewit, Species Well-attested Source Wikidata: Wood BlewitSources1.
